NSTC Symposium Kick-off presentation

The 2024 National Semiconductor Technology Center (NSTC) Symposium and Microelectronics Commons Annual Meeting took place in Washington D.C. on October 28th - 30th and featured three days of programming from U.S. microelectronics leaders from industry, academia, and government, including the Department of Commerce and the Department of Defense. Both events provided exclusive insights into the achievements made through the CHIPS and Science Act to date and how the nation is being mobilized to establish collaboration-based infrastructure to revitalize U.S. microelectronics technological advancement, onshoring efforts, and new workforce development initiatives.

NORDTECH proudly participated in this year’s event and met with fellow ME Commons Hubs, semiconductor technology organizations, and workforce development leaders to drive U.S. innovation. The NORDTECH Hub continues to build collaborative partnerships to accelerate the transition from lab-to-fab to build a secure, resilient U.S. semiconductor ecosystem, and joined engaging fireside chats, breakout sessions, and supported student poster presentations during this event.

NORDTECH’s Technical Director, Nicholas Fahrenkopf, presented a “NORDTECH Hub Operations & Capability Overview,” which underscored the Hub’s achievements over the past year. His talk illustrated how NORDTECH’s initiatives are driving forward the mission of the CHIPS Act, creating meaningful partnerships, and building collaborative infrastructure to fortify the U.S. microelectronics industry.

While at this symposium, Nicholas joined NSTXL’s Defense Tech Podcast to discuss advancements in microelectronics innovation and the critical role of NORDTECH in strengthening the U.S. defense supply chain.

Additionally, NY CREATES’ Vice President for Education and Workforce Development, Dr. Robert Geer, presented to industry leaders the pivotal role of workforce development in preparing the next generation of semiconductor talent.
